External Hard Drive Runs Hot

Is this team is still good? And I should not have a Mac b / c of it?

So I'm supposed to go to get a new Mac-Book today. But last night, I kept everything on my external hard drive and I saw that still had 111 GB left on it and 88GB left on my own computer. It runs really hot and slow. I wondered if it would just clean work more efficiently .. but I know almost nothing about computers. PS The hard drive has been replaced twice, so I think this is not very reliable and autocad photoshop documents will be put in the fall semester. Thank you for help!

I do not think a mac is what you want the computers are impressive. but I think Dell or HP after what happens to do better.
