External Hard Drive in a plane?

I recently bought an external hard drive and use it to record TV on my Media Center PC. I often travel in an airplane and I was wondering if there is anything that uses batteries to watch TV? It would be easy to assemble, but the battery cables and loose to make it look like a bomb. I do not want that! Is there a commercial product that can be used to power a hard disk External AC and could be brought to a plan without any security problems at airports?
